'Back in the day', this bar was normally frequented by pretentious nobody's, who thought they were wealthier, smarter and more cultured than they really were. Now though, in present day form, it must be said that this place has turned itself into one of the best small bars in town.
Friendly staff and clientel, good original beers and fine choice of spirits.Helpful 3Thanks 0Love this 2Oh no 1 - Gary C.Kent, Britannia0141901. elok. 2015
Perfectly situated a stones throw away from Berwick's ancient stone bridge, the Barrels ale house is a perfect combination of, good music, weird and wonderful objects and music memorabilia, and bloody excellent beers.
Take your place in the old barbers chair by the bar, order a pint of draught Wolf, or the superb Caesar Augustus, both far superior to your normal everyday beers, and sit back and relax surrounded by a myriad of interesting photos, posters, signs, and objects. Sounds like a perfect night out to me!Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Ian G.Penicuik, Britannia38315. helmik. 2016
An interesting quirky pub down by the old bridge over the river Tweed.
Inside it is amazing! It is like a cross between Aladdin's cave and a museum. Every inch of the pub seems to taken up by a whole range of interesting artefacts and memorabilia. There is even an old barber's chair positioned by the bar!
Barrels Ale House is an award winning real ale pub, with a changing variety of beers on tap.
Snacks are also available.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Gillian L.Edinburgh, Britannia541234517. huhtik. 2012Ensimmäisen arvostelun tekijä
I have to say, this place looked a bit rowdy from outside. And it's scruffy and messy and full of mismatched furniture, but in fact, it's a great wee place!
With a good selection of 'proper' beer, some intriguing art for sale on the walls, and friendly customers and staff, it's just a lovely little pub.
Look out when going to the loo - you open the door and the floor slopes away from you, so you feel a bit like you're falling ... and no, that wasn't just because of the beer!Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Qype-käyttäjä (Berwic…)Berwick-upon-Tweed, Britannia35624. syysk. 2009
Undoubtedly the best pub in Berwick, always a great atmosphere, both when quiet and busy.
Changed hands a couple of years ago and not so much live music on now but still a cracking pub.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Qype-käyttäjä (lukeor…)Lontoo, Britannia62919. jouluk. 2008
By far the best pub in Berwick. A selection of beers, ales, wine and spirits are all available. Generally a crowd in there during the evenings, especially at weekends. Downstairs there is often a band or DJ with a smaller bar. Upstairs the music is good and despite Martin, everyone is friendly and convivial with excellent service.

Barrels has changed so much over the years but in my opinion its still the best place in Berwick to get a pint. Upstairs there are two rooms and one bar and the place is always packed but both the staff and customers are very friendly and always up for a chat. There aren't many seats but because its always packed it doesn't matter. Downstairs there are always live bands or a dj perfectfor the youngsters to hang out. There is also another bar downstairs. Unfortunately there is only two toilets in the male and female but the glittery toilet seats are worth a look at. There is a balcony for smoking on too. The pub itself is situated at the entrance to Berwick via the old bridge.

Very nice inside, 4 real ales, no real cider. Courtyard is small and no beer garden, but still very nice.
