Etap Hotel

My parents often come to stay over for a night or two in Leeds and usually I put them up for the night. If one or the other comes to stay there has always been a sofa, or a spare room, for them to crash on whilst they visit.

However, my last house was less equipped for this. My Dad and a family friend wanted to come and stay, but unfortunately we had an unbearably full house at the time and just the one sofa for guests.

So, I took it upon myself to book them a hotel. By far, the cheapest option was the Etap. With rooms from £36 a night you can hardly complain! The rooms were of a reasonable size, after all, they were only going to sleep in them. As far as cleanliness, everything was a ok and there was the standard complimentary tea and coffee sachets with UHT milk. Fair enough.

After a reasonable night's sleep, disturbed only by the drunken guests next door, my Dad and his friend reported that everything was pretty reasonable. I suppose, if you are only staying for a night or two and you don't plan to do much more than place your head on a clean pillow in the hotel, then this is worth the spend. Luxury it is not, but it does the job.

The Etap is a large hotel block, part of the Gateway development in Leeds. Visible from the bottom end of Eastgate, it is perfect if you are in Leeds for a night or two and need somewhere cheap to stay. With room available around the £35 mark, you can't really expect it to be a doppelgänger of the Marriot, but it does what it's meant to!

One thing I must warn you of though, is that it is a favourite place for people who are not residents of Leeds to crash after a heavy night of boozing. therefore, if you're lucky enough to get a room, you may well find it to be a bit of a racket in the wee small hours, as they all stumble in. On the other hand, if this doesn't bother you, book in advance before they snap up all the rooms!

The Etap is always the hotel I recommend to friends and family who visit me in Leeds. Mainly because it's one of the cheapest hotels you will find and it's a 15 min walk from my flat.


The location of Etap is great - on the edge of the city centre so it's convenient for a night out. The reason it's so cheap (from £30/night) is because the rooms are pretty bare, with bunk beds (at least the one I stayed in) with very small TV's. This makes it ideal for short stays but I wouldn't recommend more than a couple of nights.


Ideal for those needing somewhere to crash on a night out but definitely not recommended for couples going away for the weekend - there are more romantic dwellings!

The Etap played a great role in the start of my relationship. With us both living with parents it wasnt always possible to stay at each others homes and at £32 a night (now £35) this place was a god send.


Located in the city centre, close to the bus station you have plenty of access to the night life, shops and bars that Leeds has to offer.


I would have given 5 stars but the breakfast which consisted of just toast and cereal was not the best.


The rooms sleep 3 as well so it works out just under £12 each.

Etap is a great cheap place to stay if ever visiting leeds as it is right nar the city centre. Is situated not far from the bus station and close to all the great nightlife that leeds has to offer at £32 per room it is value for money and ideally located near the theatre as well

well its hardly 5 star, in fact its a million miles away from it but if you need a cheap place to stay for a night out or quick visit then you cant go wrong with this hotel. its clean and extremely basic but does the job!!
