Rick's Guitar Shop

I work just down the street from his shop and I've probably driven past it hundreds of times. I've always been interested in trading in my old electric guitar for an acoustic but was always worried about making the right selection and how much I would have to spend.

I took my electric in one afternoon to Rick, who after a nice conversation, took a look at my guitar (which I honestly thought was a hunk of crud) and gave me a great appraisal. He then showed me all the acoustics that were in my price range inviting me to play different ones. After making my selection, I was extremely happy with the guitar and the price.

Rick is running a great store down there. He is kind, interesting, and makes you feel comfortable. He showed me all of the interesting and expensive guitars as I listened in awe. This guy knows his stuff. If you're looking for a new guitar, a trade-in, or just want to check it out this is the place to go.

He really is the awesome guy everyone says he is. He knows his stuff, and he made us feel really welcome in his store. We talked for a long time about a whole bunch of stuff, and I just felt like he was a chill owner. Definitely go if you have questions. He has tons of experience!

He also let us play with a lot of guitars. It was pretty cool.

I would love to have had the chance to see what this shop is about. I went there at noon on Saturday, devoting 45 minutes of glorious San Diego weekend weather to buy some strings for a guitar.

To my surprise, a sign on the door that it was closed Sat-Monday, sorry for the inconvenience. If you aren't going to bother honoring your business hours on non holidays.. then it just really tells me you don't care at all. I don't care either, not going back.

My advice, call during business hours to make sure they didn't go on a surf trip or something, and that the store is open.

I had a great experience at Rick's guitar shop. I was in the market for a high end acoustic guitar, and I had gone to all the other big stores in San Diego. Rick had a wonderful selection of Santa Cruz guitars, and I ended up purchasing a great Orchestra Model.

Rick was so personable and friendly... very easy to talk to. He answered all my questions, and provided me with a lot of background information on Santa Cruz and Taylor guitars. He also set up a private appointment with me so I could really spend some time with the guitars before I made a purchase. All in all, a wonderful buying experience. Definitely recommend checking out Rick's.

Went here looking for a Taylor GSmini...left with a gorgeous 712ce. Ben at the Taylor Factory told me to call Rick if I was looking for a great guitar. He was extremely helpful and professional. The shop is small but it is not supposed to be like a guitar center. The selection is not huge but he can basically order anything you are looking for including customized Taylor's. This shop is more of the intimate setting for open-mic nights and events. He has a great price range so you will be happy regardless your price point. I was able to play any guitar I wanted and he brought out an amp to let me hear the difference when plugged. He has Eastman, Fender, Martin, Taylor, and a few other good companies. In summary this is a small quality place with a diverse selection.

I first met Rick when he managed a large shop in PB. He was helpful in not only advising me and selling me equipment on the floor...but helpful in a number of "custom" orders from PRS, Mesa Boogie and Gibson. We kept in touch when he worked for Taylor and I am glad to see he is now on his own. The shop is near my home and he shares space with an old Buffalo Bros. repair guy. Rick is a guy who will try to help, give good advice and cut you the best deal he can. Stop by his shop. It's worth it!!

On our first visit (a couple of months ago) Rick didn't bother to get off the phone or acknowledge us in any way. After 10 minutes of waiting, we left. Decided to give the place another chance. Went by yesterday to pick up some strings - sign said Closed For The Week - On Vacation. There was no indication of this on the website. Waisted a trip - frustrating. A friend says he is a really nice guy - customer service needs some work.
