So High Soho

So High Soho is so eclectic. Downstairs they have a costume shop. I spent hours down there trying on boas and Superwoman outfits. Why aren't costumes daily wardrobe wear? Wouldn't humanity be much more interesting if we dressed up as alter-egos everyday, shielding our true identities from strangers, gallivanting around as heroes or truly heinous villains? I vote for 365 days of Halloween.

Anyway, back to the shop. The main floor has an array of really cool randomness. Ashtrays, prints of Marilyn Monroe, games, keychains, tapestries, candles, incense, buttons, mugs; you name it they claim it. When I need to get a gift for someone I come here to buy it. Finding something cool here is guaranteed.

Being so far away form home and wanting to look fantastic for my first Halloween night out, i came across So High Soho thanks to the amazing yelpers..

The service that was given to us was amazing. They were so busy as Halloween was the next night..

I picked up one customs an was told 'no no no don't try this Queen of Heart's costume this one is the best and so much more you..'
I tried it on and was perfect, they ensure that had everything I need to look the best, a crown, makeup, playing card stockings, heart stickers the works.

The costumes are very well price the shop is small and crowded stuff everywhere but the guys and girls that work there are amazing they know where everything is and the have so much passion for making you feel and look the part you want to play at your party..

If only it wasn't so far away they could dress me for all fancy dress parties..

I've been meaning to check out this little gem for a long time and finally got round to it! If you're looking for something slightly unusual and quirky then So High Soho is the place to head to. They only sell (check out local Mad World in Charing Cross for hire!) and they have a really good selection ranging from brocade jackets, corsets, latex, masks, lashes, flat caps and everything in between. I also had my eye on an amazing mirrored bodice which is honestly amazing.
I just want everything.
I wouldn't want to be in such a tiny little shop at Halloween however so definitely get any shopping with them done early and in time!

I will say I do think some of their clothing items are a little overpriced but take note of the brands and you can find them online half the price ;)

This store is something else. Literally.

This shop is one part retro and one part Halloween.

I came into this store smelling the incense and basically out of curiosity. I ended up getting my dracula teeth for Halloween here.

This place has everything. The whole bottom floor is filled with costumes and makeup, that includes Dracula suitable blood and venetian masks ( good for terror).

So High thinly veils it's support of the drug culture. They even sell bongs.

To set the scene: It's 4:15pm on Halloween. I'm meant to be meeting a group of people in Soho in 15 minutes. I have no costume, just an *exceptionally* "beautiful" pink dress, a "ghoul-dilocks" wig, and a few ideas stemming from a past of high school drama and 90210 reruns.

Oh p.s., there's a 40 minute queue around the corner and a man at the front door directing everybody to said queue. But guess what? There's also a girl at the door acting as a runner for anyone who knows exactly what they want and have cash.

Laura: Do you have a crown? Oh, an black roses? And a hen party sash?
Girl: Yep... be right back.

...3 minutes later she emerged with three different types of crowns, a variety of black roses and three colours of sashes.

Laura: You. Are. Amazing, (I then handed her £5 and happily walked away... until I remembered the blasted bow tie. They won't have bow ties, will they? Worth a shot...

Laura: bow ties?
Girl: What size and colour?

Yes, in fact they did have bow ties. And they were £2.

Conclusion?
So High Soho for the fancy dress win. And extra bonus stars for keeping cool under pressure!

The amazingly friendly and really helpful staff alone almost warrant the five star review.
Serioulsy, ask them anything and they will probably be able to sort you out. And they genuinly seem to love doing their jobs too, none of that overly helpful, smug or pushy shop assistant stuff here.

Lots of costumes, more accessories and even some jewellery and novalties thrown in for good measure.

Prices range from really cheap to a lot more expensive, so if you are on a strict costume budget you gotta be prepared to be pretty strong willed.
I went in looking for a cheap policewomans hat, but came out with something a lot more spectacular, but way more pricy. But is going to make me look rocking at New Years Eve costume party, so bite me, thats what overdrafts are for.

I loved this store. It is tight, therefore, you can fit 3 people reasonably. The store is packed but well organized. I found a really cool PAC man suit that matches my dress. Prices are fair. Good assortment of selected styles. Awesome customer service.

Incredible, cool, surprising, amusing, pleasing, inspiring and highly satisfying. Those are my impressions of this amazing gem hidden rather innocuously in Soho.

I popped into this place needing some gear for a last-minute 70s party. It took a few minutes to find their fancy dress outfits, which are located downstairs in the basement. But once there, it seemed that every cautious query of mine was met with a confident steer by the friendly and exotically-attired assistants to a corner of the room, which is absolutely stacked with fancy dress outfits and accessories. Trying everything on was a hoot, and my OTT outfit was quite the toast of the evening's festivities. Highly recommended!

Okay... damn this place is amazing! I thought it would be hard to find a fancy dress costume when I had no friggin' idea what I wanted to go as. So I bopped along Soho way, popping into Ann Summers and all the local *ahem* colourful shops, till I decided I didn't actually want to look like a prostitute. Well not on purpose anyway.

Remembering that this place sold some quirky stuff, I went in to find HUGE feathered wings. Venturing further into the store, they have a massive costume selection downstairs. They have everything from famous costumes, to traditional headdresses and elaborate masks.

The lady working the counter was so sweet offering to find me sizes and make sure I had the right outfit.

Do not go anywhere else for your costume, So High Soho has everything you want and is totally affordable. WIN!!

It's a head shop upstairs and a costume shop down below.

Upstairs: is everything I don't need but think is cool looking. Random kitschy things that you tend to pick out while trying to find something else you originally came into the store for. Fake mustache variety pack, harmonicas, bandanas in every color of the rainbow, possibly cool cheap jewelry made in china. There are some minor costumey things like some face paints and hair dye and masks and little hats/fascinators. A selection of various sized religious statues, some doubling as incense holders. Oh and every kind of incense I could ever want.
They do have a jewelry counter that has a little drawer on top filled with tiny studs of various shapes and colors. In case you have a hole that needs filling like I did. (in my right ear thank you very much...sickos)

Downstairs: I was accosted by an older lady, practically pushing me down the stairs into this basement chockablock full of every costume you could ever want or need in your lifetime. To be fair I wouldn't have even known that this stairway to costumes even existed as I was just looking for some face paint. I didn't ask about the costumes but I think you can rent some, and buy some and accessory pieces as well. I definitely know where to go to get my next fancy dress costume.
