Most people venturing into Chelsea probably only know of this gallery's Chelsea outpost, but I remember the Tanya Bonakdar Gallery from its SoHo days when Andrea Rosen also had a gallery in the same area. The 21st Street location is bigger than the old space, but has the same vibe. The last Bonakdar Gallery exhibit I saw was an awesome Gillian Wearing show. The gallery has since expanded to Los Angeles and features an impressive roster of artists, including Olafur Eliasson, Tomas Saraceno and Ernesto Neto. Highly recommended!

I came here back in early April 2015, when the main theme involved webs, and spider webs. It was really fascinating to see how the spiders designed the webs. Every piece of art has its own interpretation. What was interesting was learning about the spiders in one exhibit that was creating a new web pattern,

If you want to chill hard in Chelsea this summer head to Tanya Bonakdar!! Every gallery is going to be air conditioned of course but the back room of "ambient," a group exhibition on view until the end of July, is a dark icebox with a soothing projection by Seth Price--an ocean of digital swells, black and tinged at the crests of their ripples with all the thousands of hues of the Photoshop gradient rainbow. They roll and roll, an endless and endless moving surface--slightly unnerving but not enough to interrupt a relaxed contemplative mood, especially when there are comfy armchairs set up for viewing, with little end tables next to them (bring an ice coffee to put on them, ha). The rest of the show is pretty good as well.
