Theatre503 are one of the coolest and most engaging new writing venues in London - always with a fantastic new play or an opportunity for creatives to get involved, their commitment to presenting 'fearless new writing' has led them down some strange, yet hugely enjoyable by-roads.

Pop down for one of their award-winning shows (or even better, to one of their Rapid Write Response new writing nights) and see some of the hottest young talent out there - and the pub downstairs is nice too, expensive yet great food and the wine bottle's thrown in if you buy two glasses before 8 - ideal for the theatre...

I have masses of respect for Theatre5O3. Its mainly showcasing new writing, and really bold writing at that! Last night I saw 'The Stuff of Life' which was actaully a revival from a scottish play from the 90's...but first time its been performed in years. It was great! Really gritty and powerful. The last play I saw at 503, was also really gritty 'Meat' Its a theatre above a pub and just everything about being here is great!!

Valhalla ** disappointing. Odd way/context to promote feminist polemic. (Wondered why so many young women, NOT usual theatre-goers were in audience). Devolved into silliness in dénouement. Attended with Ray Chellel, The PJ's London-based theatre critic, which made up for the otherwise tedious time Dinner before show at The Latchmere, the pub that houses the 503. Fish pie ****/5. Service *****/5! -- Hotspur for The PJ.

Great new writing theatre above average pub with slow service.


Shows can be hit and miss, but if you're keen on the new writing scene, this is definitely the place to see it.
